Independent living refers to remaining in a residence that does not require assistance for your housing needs or medical care.  80% of the aging population will experience special houseing needs at some point in the future.

Congregate living offers private apartments, from studios to two bedrooms.  This is independent living with privacy but with the advantage of custodial care.

Senior Day Care and senior centers help seniors stay in their homes longer.  These facilities fill in the gap when the caregiver must work during the day.  The day care centers offers supervision, a meal, social and education activities and support groups.

Assisted Living is an intermediate step between independent living and care facilities.  These provide a residence for those who need help with daily activities, but do not need nursing care.

Continuing Care retirement communities provide increasing levels of care at one location as the needs of the resident change.  There are 3 stages:  Independent living units, Assisted living units and nursing home facilities.

Nursing homes are health care and extended care facilities that provide personal and medical care around the clock.

Alzheimer's care facilities specialize in care of patients with dementia.

Elder Care:  involves caring for the frail elderly who have chronic functional impairment that requires another's assistance in one or more of the activities of daily living.
